Education

Education is a key determinant of future success, and every disabled person deserves equal access to education. The opportunity for a quality education should not be denied on the basis of physical, mental or cognitive disability. Beginning with the immediate measure that the Government should take to increase disabled people's access to education to laws and regulations firmly in place to let every disabled Nepali to enjoy his/her right to education are the key agendas NFDN takes forward.

As envisioned, we believe NFDN becomes able to work for the agendas adopted and provide with the right to the people with disabilities and their families to get the most out of educational opportunities.

Employment

Employment is the precursor to one's economic freedom and future security. For people with disabilities, employment promotes greater independence and productive, fulfilling lives.

Along with advocating for increase in jobs for disabled people, NFDN proactively engages itself in actually creating more employment opportunities. To do so, NFDN shall work in symbiosis with the government as well as private sector to secure more jobs for qualified people with disability. Besides, it shall also arrange to work with likeminded organizations to arrange for trainings for the people with disability. Concurrently, NFDN shall advice individuals with disabilities seeking work; help for employers looking for hard-working and dedicated employees; information on employment rights, laws and regulations; resources for employment programs and job accommodations for people with disabilities.

Equality

Governments can enact laws to guarantee equality and to let people with disability participate to create for their personal well being. The cost of denying equal opportunities to persons with disabilities is high not only in financial terms, but in the loss of their contribution to society. The untapped potential of disabled people will be realized only when governments ensure that equal opportunities are given to all of their citizens.

So, NFDN recognizes our government could take necessary steps to ensure equality and let people with disability because government, through its legal system, can protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

  1. live as dignified and independent a life-style as possible within the community;
  2. take an active part in the general, social and economic development of society;
  3. receive education, medical care and social services within the ordinary structures of their societies.
