Short Introduction of NFDN and its Functions
How it started

The disability movement in Nepal only gained real momentum after the observance of International Year of the Disabled Persons in 1981 and adoption of World Program of Action on Disability in 3rd December 1982. That pushed for the enactment of the Disabled protection and Welfare Act the same year in Nepal. The reinstatement of democracy in 1990 opened door to the like minded people to establish self-help organizations that also observed stimulus for People with Disability (PWDs) to promote their cause more effectively. In 1993 a number of pioneer leaders from Disabled Peoples' Organizations (DPOs) concluded that the best way to coordinate the disability movement throughout the nation was through an 'Umbrella Organization' and as a result, the National Federation of Disabled – Nepal (NFD-N) was born.
