Consultation workshop organized in finalizing the alternative report of UNCRPD

July 16, 2017,
National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN) convened a final consultation and data validation workshop on the civil society report (alternative report) of UNCRPD “United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability-2006”. The event was held on 16th July, 2017 at Alpha-house New-Baneshwor Kathmandu, Nepal. The event saw around 55 participants from different thematic DPOs, international partner organizations, and other concerned stakeholders.
Nepal Government has submitted the first/initial report on 2012, but DPOs and their Federation did not get opportunities to contribute in preparing the report. Further, they also did not submit the alternative report during that time considering it as initial report. There are not much follow up of the suggestions of the Committee. Now, it is another time approaching to prepare and submit the reports to the Committee. NFDN has got mandate to lead the processes of alternative reporting of UNCRPD on behalf of civil society and persons with disabilities in Nepal.
NFDN is leading the whole report writing process and currently getting the feedback from different level’s stakeholders on the different drafts of the alternative report. Regional level consultation and thematic group discussions have already been completed. Now, it is urgently needed to get feedback from national level stakeholders and some selected individuals who can have the real contribution in finalizing the report as well as getting the validation on the same document.
In the run up to the workshop, initially, Mr. Shudarson Subedi, the national president of NFDN briefed about the overall procedure of report writing process. Furthermore, Mr. Kapil Aryal, (a person who is mainly responsible for the write up process of alternative report) the consultant put a short presentation on how the drafts are developed and modified in the course of time.
Following the short presentation, all the participants were encouraged to put their own issues one-by-one. Beside the individual comments/feedback, all the participants were divided into some groups and again encouraged to put their collective efforts on the same documents.
