Celebrating 26th International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)

To mark the 26^th International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), rally and formal program was organized by National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal (NFD-N) in partnership with Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCSW) with the theme of “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all.”

Rally was formally inaugurated by Honorable Minister Bikram Bahadur Thapa of Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCSW). The rally commenced from Pragya Pratisthan premises, kamaladi, made its way through Durbar Marg and ended at Social Welfare Council, Lainchour with an official program.

 

A huge mass of people of different background was observed in the Social Welfare Council premise. The program was attended by delegates of MoWCSW and also various national, international level organizations working for issues of persons with disability. The program started with reading the congratulatory message from the President, Bidhya Devi Bhandari by Keshav Prasad Bhattarai, Under-Secretary of MoWCSW.

In the same program, Accessibility Award was given to Adarsha Saula Yubak Secondary School, Bungmati and Labim Mall, Pulchowk for their outstanding initiative to ensure minimum accessibility standards in their structures. The recipients was awarded by Hon. Minister Bikram Bahadur Thapa.

 

The chief guest of the program, Hon. Minister Bikram Bahadur Thapa remarked to support in the implementation of newly adopted disability rights act, 2074 and to make other disability friendly laws/policy in days to come. Naindra Prasad Upadhaya, the Secretary of MoWCSW, further shared that the ministry is working for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities and commits to do the more in forth coming days as well.

Finally, Mr. Shudarson Subedi, President of NFD-N, concluded the program requesting the concerned stakeholders to give special attention to proper implementation of Disability Act, 2074 and other commitments.
