Post-Global Disability Symposium 2025 Concludes with a National Call for Action
The National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN), in partnership with the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens (MoWCSC), successfully organized the Post-Global Disability Symposium 2025 on 9 December 2025 at The Everest Hotel, Kathmandu. The event brought together representatives from key government ministries, national OPDs, development partners, UN agencies and civil society to internalize the Amman–Berlin Declaration adopted at the Global Disability Summit (GDS) 2025 in Berlin.
The symposium served as a national platform to discuss Nepal’s obligations under the UNCRPD, reflect on the commitments made at GDS 2025, and identify strategies to localize global commitments within Nepal’s policy and implementation systems. The event featured high-level keynote statements, thematic presentations, and OPD-led reflections on inclusive education, health and rehabilitation, employment, WASH, disability data, gender and intersectionality, sign language rights, and youth participation.
A major outcome of the symposium was the endorsement of a 43-point “Kathmandu Call for Action”, representing Nepal’s collective commitment to strengthening disability-inclusive policies, addressing implementation gaps, and promoting coordinated national action across all sectors. The declaration was formally handed over to the National Inclusion Commission for onward submission to the Right Honorable Prime Minister. NFDN extends its sincere appreciation to all OPDs, government agencies, development partners and collaborators whose support and engagement made this symposium meaningful. The event marks an important step toward accelerating disability inclusion in Nepal and advancing national momentum toward GDS 2028.
