Training on All Under One Roof organized in 8 Districts

National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN) convened “Two-days Basic Training on All Under One Roof- AUOR” in eight highly earthquake affected districts in March, 2018.

As a capacity building initiative, the training events were targeted to humanitarian actors, political representatives of local bodies: municipalities and rural municipalities, some district level government offices, members of local disaster management committee, Police office, Nepal Army, traffic police, DPOs members, media persons and other concerned stakeholders.

Those events saw around 21 to 47 participants in various districts. Whereas total 270 participants (283 males and 87 females (were participated in all eight training events. We organized those events in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Rasuwa, Dhading and Gorkha districts.

The main objective of the training was to strengthen the knowledge and skills of the participants of on the disability inclusive disaster risk Reduction in general and particularly the inclusive shelters and settlements through interactive sessions, game activities, presentations and dialogues based on the document entitled “All under one roof Manual”.

NFDN is confident that Participants will at least initiate to include the acquired knowledge and skills in their own practice and that will be reflected as their inclusive efforts.

The project team initially prepared the tailored manual in both Nepali & English language based on the original manual of AUOR. We organized a Tot for 18 DPO leaders targeting these training programs in December, 2017 at Kathmandu.

We again conducted a refresher training to those all participants of the TOT in the month of February, 2018. The training manual was finalized even getting the feedback of those participants. NFDN also prepared all the necessary materials including presentations, videos, play-cards, cases and others so that all the facilitators could confidently organize the trainings.

All of the participants were found quite exciting to be the part of the event. Those trainings became fruitful in the current scenario, since newly elected leaders were also oriented in the basic concept of disability and issues of DIDRR.

The participants of the trainings eventually made their individual and organizational commitments. With the support of those commitments, NFDN will make the follow up plan to capture the efforts of those people /organizations/groups in near future.

A lot of suggestions and comments have also been collected during the events. These things will certainly contribute to make the training manual more comprehensive for future development.
